GLOBE at Night, 2012
Posted January 27, 2012 by Glow
Every year, since 2006, the GLOBE at Night project has been busy collecting data on the quality of our night sky from around the world. As the world's population grows, so does the need for more nighttime lighting. Unfortunately, most light fixtures are poorly designed and much of that light ends up in the sky, contributing to the ever-growing problem of light pollution. GLOBE at Night attempts to measure this light pollution and the rate at which it is expanding.
The project is now entering its seventh year in operation with a series of four reporting periods:
1. January 14-23
2. February 12-21
3. March 13-22
4. April 11-20
During the January period, the project collected 2649 measurements. The goal for this year is to collect 15000 measurements.
